Howdy. I'm Sean, here with Nick from Make Them Suffer. Ask us anything.

hey man, something i've often though of myself. It used to be my philosphy. But as I've learned growing older it's more broad than just music. Why does a child hate fish? why does your first love hurt the most? There's a science behind it. In reference to the fish, that is your taste receptors first time experiencing that flavour, so there's an overwhelming fishiniess to it. same with your first heartbreak, it's your first time experiencing that emotion.

I've been more depressed withing the last year or so than I have been in my life, at the same time I've also been at my happiest at points in that year. But it doesn't feel as strong as the first time I experienced those emotions. People will say things about me, or things will happen to me, that a 17-year-old perspective of me would've been extremely bent out of shape over and almost overly-dramatic. that's how angst works. I'd say more than just in music, but just with age in general. If you've grown up and always questioned your surroundings, you've generally come into a space where it's not necessarily the end of the world.

What you say is true to a point, but it's a lot more complicated than that. Bobbie McFerrin released the happiest song of all time "don't worry be happy", killed himself. was that song a mask from his emotions? only he would really know... but my point is that it goes much deeper than that.

we're creating music, because we've dedicated our lives to music and to be put frankly. When I listen to deathcore and MOST metalcore, it's bland to me. very few bands I feel are really pushing the genre in a direction that keeps it fresh. But that's because i've been kicking about a lot. There are those bands though; code orange, ocean grove, architects that i feel are doing a service to the genre. so under that logic, the music we create and how we've changed musically is a product of our own musical journey. I find more enjoyment out of a radiohead album than most metal/deathcore albums and that's because they're a band that are constantly pushing the envelope, evolving and trying new things. And as a musician/s we will endeavour to do the same.
