So we do give colisitin IV for severe infections in the ICU. Its a detergent. Detergents are used as disinfectants. Its mechanism of action is:

Hydrophobic/hydrophilic regions interact with the cytoplasmic membrane just like a detergent, solubilizing the membrane in an aqueous environment.[citation needed] This effect is bactericidal even in an isosmolar environment.

It's non specific mechanism means it could have antiviral effects although I've only seen it used for bacterial infections. There is also an aerosolized version for difficult to treat pneumonias. This is what trump was referring to I think. I'm guessing someone mentioned they are studying it to him and they explained it to him this way.

This story is being overblown. Most people commenting on this have no idea what they are talking about.
