HR Pros: how do I switch into HR from cyber security?

Just to expand some as someone who came from traditional HR and joined HRIS recently, depending on the company/team, there are a lot of different paths you can take within the field.

You can do back-end configuration, writing scripts and implementing changes to the systems on the more technical side (I guess this is what people think of when they hear HRIS as the intersection between HR and IT). You can delve into analytics and reporting, or focus on operations (problem solving and correcting issues for employees/customers within the HRIS itself). My manager is kind of a blend between all of these! No matter what path you take, partnering/collaborating with others to solve business problems is at the core of it. So you will still get to problem solve and work with others on a daily basis!

If you really want to get away from the systems side of things, in my experience many professional HR jobs will have you sitting in front of a computer pretty much all day, unless you decide to go into more of an HR Generalist role. Generalists typically do a lot of training, onboarding, orientations, event set ups, etc, more active stuff that requires good interpersonal skills.

I don't know much about the type of background you have, but technical skills are quite lacking in the field of HR as a whole. I think if you find the right company/role, they would see the diversity of experience you would bring as very desirable.

Hope that helps!
