I agree HSV2 is no big deal — unless it is an HSV2 positive partner having sex with an HSV2 negative pregnant woman in the third trimester. I wouldn’t fault him for not knowing that, but you do need to get to the bottom of it.

I am a doctor. If he is pos and you are neg you should abstain for the remainder of the pregnancy. The situation you are trying to avoid is one where you are NEWLY infected at birth without the time to produce antibodies to protect your infant (which is why most longstanding HSV2 positive mothers are relatively safe).

The sex-positive way to handle it is to both get tested with type specific IgGs and get the answer. Then make decisions accordingly with your OB’s input.
