HuffPost think reading the Quran will combat Islamophobia.

Likewise, certain politicians promoted fascist ideologies

Who like Muhammad and his religion, which has much in common with fascism,

such as special ID cards for Muslims,

I guess they took inspiration from Islam a religion that permits religious discrimination to those who are considered non-muslims and making sure dhimmis 'distinguish' themselves.

a cessation of all Muslim immigrants,

Perhaps they took inspiration from the Muslim worlds history of prohibiting Non-Muslims from Mecca. A city originally host majority to diverse religions, until they were banned and the local populace being coerced into Islam, after the conquest of Mecca by the early Muslims.

and a rejection of a Muslim serving as president of the United States.

Abit like Islam and many Muslims prohibiting a Non-Muslim from serving as the Caliph of the Caliphate or the head of state and government of self proclaimed Islamic states.

Meanwhile, anti-Muslim hate crimes and anti-Muslim sentiment skyrocketed...

I am opposed to anti-Muslim bigotry, but are Muhammad and his pal allah opposed to anti-non Muslim hate crimes like the slaughter of the banu qurayza and the original polytheist people's of arabia, does Allah have hatred for non-muslims, so much so he sends non-muslims who reject Islam to hell?

Looking forward, the only way we -- Muslims and non-Muslims -- are going to conquer misinformation and extremism, is by working together. We can build peace, but we must build it together.

But Islam is perfect, right? how can a perfect religion be so prone to misinterpretation, that it results in such horrible consequences of violence, death and bloodshed? Unless Islam is just another flawed ideology in need of fixing? You talk of 'Peace', great, let's get rid of the unnecessary, cruel and unusual punishments of Islam, especially hell.

1) Call your local mosque and wish them a Happy New Year! Yes, Muslims celebrate the new year too.

Given there many interpretations of Islam, some if not many religious Muslims, may oppose such a harmful greeting. But hey moderate or a better term, Cultural Muslims won't, because they're quite lax in their belief and tend to sugar coat Islam.

2) Vote for a candidate who promotes freedom of religion for all people -- not just for those who share the candidate's faith.

Oh the irony, I guess this rules out Muhammad and his pal allah as well as many Muslims in this world who sadly support punishing apostates and blasphemers.

3) Love thy neighbor, yes, even thy Muslim neighbor.

But in Islam, can a Muslim love a dhimmi? Can a Muslim love polytheist people's? Can a Muslim women love a Atheist Man? Can a Muslim love Non-Muslim who reject Islam? Can a Muslim love an Apostate?

4) Encourage your children to learn about different faiths, including Islam.

Good idea. We should make sure to show that there are many 'Islam's' some violent, some peaceful.

It will make them more compassionate and intelligent human beings.

Indeed. Once we show that the first victims of Islam/Arab superstition, are Muslims themselves, Non-Muslim children can utilize their empathy and shun the Islamic concepts of hell and its violent verses and punishments.

5) Learn about Prophet Muhammad (sa) from Muslims. Here's a great and free e-book about his life.

Sorry, but I'll stray far from dawahganda and look at more objective and rational accounts of Muhammad's life, like 23 years by Ali dashti.

6) Learn about Islam by reading the Qur'an. You can get a complimentary copy mailed to you free of charge at the Muslims for Peace website.

Indeed, I have and found it to be a an ambiguous and contradictory book, open to many interpretations, some violent, some peaceful. It all depends on what verses apologists cherry pick to suit their agenda, for example if you're agenda is violent expansionism, cherry pick the medina verses.

7) Understand that Muslims are diverse in race and nationality -- white, black, Latino, Arab, South Asian, European, and many more. So in other words, don't stereotype.

So are polytheists and unbelievers but Muhammad and Allah have much stereotypes and hatred for them

8) Understand that Muslims are as American as anyone. In fact, American Muslims have served in the Armed Forces in every war since America's founding.

Could you tell Muhammad and Allah that apostates and polytheists are human? Could you tell them unbelievers who reject Islam are also human beings? Hence can you ask them to get rid of Hell?

9) Understand that Muslims condemn terrorism just like any sane person would.

Does the condemnation of terrorism extend to Muhammad and the early Muslims who much utilized terrorism for Islam to spread.

10) Understand that Islam's primary purpose is to bring humanity closer to God in personal faith, and bring humanity closer to all humanity by serving all humanity.

...via the means of violence and coercion, as evident by the later medina verses and the example of Muhammad and the sahaba. Also don't forget those who reject Islam, apparently get tortured in hell, not a god any rational and empathetic person would want to get close to.

12) Understand that Muslim women who choose to wear hijab, do so in the footsteps of Mary Mother of Jesus. (In fact there's a whole chapter named after her in the Qur'an).

Now that's a lie, the Hijab seems to have been prescribed due to Umar's demands

13) Get involved. American Muslim youth are waging a true Jihad (i.e. struggle) against hunger in America. (Fact, 1 in 6 Americans go to bed hungry every night and Muslim youth are trying to change that).

That's nice. But let's not sugar coat Jihad and be intellectually dishonest, Jihad has historically been used in violent context.

15) Get involved. There's a new campaign called True Islam and the Extremists, which is the country's first effort to unite Muslims and non-Muslims against terrorist ideology. Follow @TrueIslamUSA, endorse the campaign at the True Islam website, and help build a united stand against extremism and terrorism.

Go @TrueIslamUSA, i.e. a sugar coated interpretation of Islam, but I'm not sure how many religious Muslims will take this seriously.

16) Finally, and perhaps most importantly in 2016, take the time to make a Muslim friend. Get to know a Muslim personally. According to Pew, roughly 200 million Americans have never met a Muslim. If you want to find a local Muslim friend, email me and we'll make it happen!

Sure. Can the inhabitants of jannah appeal to their empathy and meet and befriend the inhabitants of hell and save them from torture?
