Hype Beasts

Idk I'd say my education prepared me at the very least to be capable of finding answers to my problems. If you felt that you were only learning to take tests in school (which, depending on the course or level you're in, can feel like that) then you're not getting all you can out of it.

I started being a musician in high school for instance, learned 2 instruments and played in groups. I dabbled in computer programming. Hell they even had mandatory classical Latin which is useful to this day in my biomedical science master's program when it comes to knowing terminology. I would've had no scientific foundation without those rudimentary facts such as were referenced (Spending an entire week in lectures on the actual metabolic processes of the mitochondria as we speak).

Doing taxes was just one of the examples shown but while you're not being taught these practical things directly, you are developing a skillset which can be used to learn those things yourself. The song preaches the lack of practical knowledge but I think it also dismisses knowledge for its own sake as a foundation for later study.

All that being said, there are issues with education in general and its over-reliance on standardized testing, as well as in public school systems as a whole, but that's more on the socioeconomic side rather than on the curriculum.
