hypochondria....?

Hey! I have really bad health anxiety as well.

I'll tell you from as far back as I can remember I've had it. I'm terrified of going to the doctor, dentist, hospital etc. To give you and idea of how bad it can be for me, sometimes I'm afraid to use the bathroom, for fear that my pee might be randomly bloody (even though it's never been) or my stool be bloody (even though it's never been).

Advice I can give with how I deal with it:

  • Tell myself that I've been feeling this way forever yet I've been fine. Recognize it's just my brain being a jerk and making me freak out.

  • DO NOT EVER search symptoms online. This sends me into a panicked frenzy every single time. By this age of my life, I recognize the symptoms of a simple cold, or a headache, and I don't have to think that I have a horrible disease. If it's really bad, go to the doctor, they will diagnose you. DO NOT search symptoms

  • Avoid reddit threads about health (for example a common askreddit thread is something like: What did you put off thinking was normal until your doctor told you otherwise, or any threads asking doctors or nurses about patients and their symptoms

It's really tough dealing with health anxiety, but just tell yourself, you've been fine every other time, you're very likely to be fine now.
