A hypothetical election result where a candidate wins the presidency with only 22% of the popular vote

I think we know 1 vote is not a weighted system, which is what this system was intended. It was drawn up so even though it happens rarely(5 times out of 58), and oddly enough never repeats for the person who does not get the popular vote at reelection. It gives a voice to some farmers in Iowa or an Native American tribe in Oklahoma (sorry yes it does have relevance I am one) but also keeps a handful of cities (who do not always get representation of their issues) from running the whole country 100% of the time.

There was an ad this cycle about the removal of the system and suddenly all the candidates will visit my state instead of the battleground ones. On the contrary, suddenly the focus would be cities like NewYork, Miami, LA and Dallas. I mean, I do think it needs slight revamp, I often though if you get more than a certain amount of points over your contestant in the popular vote then the weighted ness should immediately switch to popular. But the system rebalanced. Although not a landside, it was a solid win. As Biden himself said, “the system is working” It’s easy to just chuck it out the window, but it oddly has worked for the most part over 2 centuries.
