Hypothetical lines for 2016-2017 season

1.) I understand that Legwand is good in the locker room, but I believe that that is a quality that is good to see in a player, but should not be the sole purpose a player is on the team. There are many young players and veterans that could used on the PK, but that could also chip in 5 on 5 (Tim Schaller is one that comes to mind). Legwand is too slow and doesn't have the skill anymore to provide good depth 2.) I have watched every game from this year and the year before, so I saw a Girgensons that was emerging as a No.2 center disappear to one that literally had ZERO confidence in the offensive zone. His speed to the outside was easily cut off and he would dump the puck to someone else very quickly. And in moving the puck he displayed zero play making acumen. The reason I don't think he will rebound is a.) it didn't seem like just a slump if it lasted the whole year b.) all confidence was gone in the offensive zone. He was a shadow of his former self c.) I remember when he was in the minors, people said he was projected to be a third line center. So maybe he had two overperforming years and then was falling back down from the clouds to his expected role on an NHL hockey team (defensive center) d.) Girgensons himself said he prefers center, so that is why it seems he wouldn't fit in that second line spot on the wing. He plays very well defensively as a shut down, energy guy, and that is why I think he belongs as our fourth line center. The reason not third line is because Larsson has outshined him. 3.) Probably right. I did overlook that. But if it is a junior player, I would prefer him being on the NHL roster, working through some struggles (wouldn't be AHL elligible) rather than playing in juniors where he has already dominated. I am one who likes to throw first rounders right into the NHL, but I understand that that is both a minority opinion, and not likely to be the opinion of GMTM. 4.) I do see how GMTM operates, but I have a different opinion than him. Everyone seems to think our defense needs more upgrades than our offense, but looking at GF vs GA, our offense was 25th vs our defense was 16th in the league. That leads me to believe that our offense needs much more improving than our defense. Our offense lacks scoring depth it seems. We have a lot of talent in the top 6, but after that, the skill and speed is no where to be found. On defense, in today's game, all you need is a good goalie (which they have) and a group of defensemen that can move the puck out of the zone, which isn't too hard to find. I believe the hole of a left handed top 4 d-man can be filled through the draft or free agency, but I would not like to see the sabres have to trade assets to get a player like Fowler. Sure they do need him, but not for the price it will take.
