IamA 92 year old woman from Stuttgart, Germany, and experienced Nazi Germany as a civilian. AMAA!

the ongoing economical "boom" under hitler was as much a sign of a (though expectedly slow) economic recovery after the dark years of vast social devastations that had their roots in the 1929 world economy crash, as it was in itself mainly based and built on a mind-boggling bogus concept for a nationwide switch to a "german"(read as: protectionist, self-contained, unified, centralized, ass-to-mouth) economy that was widely promoted (and acclaimed) so as to finally serve the collective, unanimous will of the german volk and their glorious führer. the idea behind it was as simple as it was insane to its core: unify and regulate pretty much all of germany's "crucial", still heavily struck industrial branches by installing several huge-ass, cartel-like superstructures like the infamous IG FARBEN, which the went on to present the chemical and big pharma complex from BAYER to BASF. the basic goal and purpose of said super-conglomerates was to enforce the projected overall raise in production, processing and distribution to continuously feed the military-industrial complex and its skyrocketing demands for core resources like steel, coal, concrete, wood and of course all kinds of machinery and supplies.

plus it was also a highly populist/popular thing to do and proclaim at the time, as it allowed the NSDAP to present themselves as in fact "national-socialist" to the masses, plus its faux anticapitalist notion was supposed to even catereto the (traditionally social-democratic if not communist-leaning) workers and the demands and claims of their unions and political parties - though the nazis did not at all intend to every socialize any factories or businesses whatsoever. so everything did in fact remain in the hands of their über-wealthy owners - if of purely german blood that is. so it was in fact the exact opposite of how they do this in "actual" socialism.

the whole idea behind hitler's was, oh wonder, utterly insanity, as the grand scheme of his would have been clearly heading towards a nearing full-on financial collapse, hadn't it been set up, in its core, based on an immediate, insatiable demand for formerly unemployed, unskilled work force and the silent introduction of a large-scale, ever-growing system of forced labour.
