IAmA MHT (Mental Health Technician) at an acute inpatient psychiatric hospital. AMA!

Let me please add my definitions of “abusive and disrespectful” as someone hospitalized for acute MDD.

It comes down to one word.

Indifference.

I went into the hospital for ten days after a complete and total mental breakdown where I told my first sergeant “that I didn’t care if I lived or died”. At which point I had already ensured that hanging myself from a belt from a door jam would act as predicted.

In the hospital, there was total indifference from the staff. And let me say I get it. They are there to do a job. They cannot get emotionally attached to the patients, but, at the same time, if you don’t care whether or not the patient lives, then why should I (as the patient).

I’ll add hospital that I was admitted to at was closed. Please google “Monte Vista Hospital Closed Las Vegas”.
