That is one type of FGM and the most severe, but there isn't a standard procedure for FGM as there several different types, similar to how there are, traditionally, several different types of male circumcision, of which castration is technically a part, though not as widely practiced as it used to be. The most common type of male circumcision/MGM is a Type I procedure where all or part of the foreskin and frenulum is removed. A analogous procedure would be removing all or part of the clitoral hood but leaving the clitoris intact. However, that sort of procedure is not really practiced, as the least severe form of FGM (Type I) generally involves all or partial removal of the clitoris in addition to the clitoral hood. That procedure is would be more similar to a Type II MGM procedure, I which the glans is or shaft is excited or injured.
