I'd like to see Shapiro debate someone from the left on par with his intellect

That's an interesting take.

Im not necessarily disagreeing with you, but from my perspective, Dillahunty was way out of his league during that debate. He admitted that he had done zero research into Peterson's work beforehand, and it showed. As a result, he had obvious difficulty understanding Peterson's position and ended up repeatedly straw-manning him - either in purpose or by accident because he couldn't wrap his head around what Peterson was trying to explain to him.

That became especially clear to me when he repeated his impassioned "religious people have to stop saying atheists are immoral" in his closing statement - it showed a clear lack of understanding of Peterson's position on what makes an atheist (ie. Not Dillahunty).

I'm nin-religious as well (in the traditional sense, not in Peterson's definition), and it took me months of watching/reading Peterson's work before I really started to understand his position and what he said actually started to click. So in fairness to Dillahunty, he really didn't have a chance walking into that blind. But all the same, barring a profound misunderstanding of Peterson's position in the same vein as Dillahunty, I really can't see how he beat Peterson there.
