[Idea] Since I felt the performance was kind of space theme and they wore the outfits from the painting, could the shooting star actually mean something?

Try and follow me, this might be a stretch...

Could be a reference to Stephen Spielberg's "Shooting Star" Easter Egg included in most of his movies?

This first appeared in his film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in 1977. Daft punk is known to be fans of the film, they even pulled a sample from the film (the scene when the humans are communicating with the aliens through tones) during one of their concerts:

Daft Punk also tried to have a performance for R.A.M at Devil's tower in Wyoming, the place the climax of the film takes place, but was denied due to its cultural significance to local Native Americans:

Daft Punk's seems to be focusing on Aliens more and more. It should also be noted the last track on R.A.M is called "Contact". The NASA sample features a recording of Eugene Cernan from the Apollo 17 mission, in which he observes a flashing object from a window of his capsule.

Bangalter emphasized the choice of Cernan, the last man to leave the surface of the moon on the final Apollo mission, being used to end the album

NME interpreted the sound as "not unlike a huge pyramid blasting off into space", a reference to the stage visuals of Daft Punk's Alive 2006/2007 tour.
