A couple of thoughts however: It has always been a fantasy of a radical element to use the Treaty as a lever to replicate their indigenous tribal structure and create a society, similar to Malaysia where the Maori live as overlords eternally paid tribute by a diminished caste of perpetual outsiders.

It also demonstrates Maori enthusiasm for replacement levels of immigration; by overwhelming NZ demographics and reducing politics to competing claims by ethnic groups they fondly imagine the treaty (enshrined in law) will give them and their descendants an upper hand.
