The numbers on stricter background checks are widely supported. People want that.The numbers on a buyback are NOT. Take a look at a few polls. Most gun-owning Americans do not support a buyback, and are fearful of legislation forcing them to comply with one. Don’t conflate those two issues.

I also think it’s incredibly disingenuous to frame your argument as though people like me must “want guns more than the shootings to stop.” The fact is, I want people to stop dying in car accidents too. I want people to stop dying of carcinogens in their food. I want people to stop dying for a lot of reasons, but when you say the increase in mass shootings must mean that draconian gun laws are necessary, that is where you lose anyone with half a brain as an audience. The increase in mass shootings is still coinciding with a historically low point in gun violence for us. The shootings are widely reported to tug on your emotions rather than allowing you to make a rational decision.
