If 3 years ago you told me that this year Warner Bros. would be doing a same day Linux release of their biggest title yet, I would have called you crazy.

They are on the same basis, I'm giving the creators what they asked for in exchange for use their software.

Only for use, though. You're not gaining freedoms 1, 2 and 3 from this unethical system.

Have you personally audited and compiled every package on your system, or do you trust that your distro maintainers don't want to install malware on your computer?

Of course not, that would take an unreasonable amount of time. However, there are people who have done this before so I don't have to. But I have audited some of my installed software.

I "know" how Steam works because I've read the API docs and have no reason to distrust Valve, and a lot of reasons to trust them based on past behavior.

Alright, if you're so confident, then how do you explain this? If Valve's legal binding states that they won't do it then how come they did exactly that?

And you continue to ignore that Steam is barely DRM in any meaningful sense; it’s only a low fence you could trivially step over if you had cause to.

Digital restriction managements will always be DRM, no matter what. It should never be taken kindly.

Your argument is very weak here because from this comment you wouldn’t feel any better if they were closed source games that didn’t require you to log in.

I don't see at all how this negates my feeling towards DRM. DRM, in a sense, is below proprietary software on my list; however, DRM is still important nonetheless. I also stated nothing about closed source games besides the fact that I do not use that terminology. I use free and nonfree.

You’re wasting effort harping on "Steam DRM" because most gamers (myself included) do care about DRM in a practical and moral sense; and many actively avoid games with more forceful DRM.

If you truly cared for your video games you would stop purchasing games with any DRM. Another thing is that Steam doesn't point out to you how strict their DRM is on a certain game, so how exactly would you know if it does or doesn't have it stated?
