If I am mistakenly bitten by a K9 and I use a weapon against it would that be seen as a threat?

Non leo but had a somewhat similar situation: I had a defensive gun use 3 years ago against a pitbull when my wife and I were walking our dog. Pitbull charged because it wasn’t on a leash and outside, owner came out to try and call it. Dog jumped and latched onto my wife’s arm who picked our 4 month puppy up to try and protect her. I’m sure the pitbull tried to get our pup and not my wife but I drew and shot the dog.

The family tried to sue me civilly, came to find out the dog had previous bite history and the judge laughed the case off. Police didn’t charge me criminally. The family ended up paying for all my wife’s medical bills.

If your life is in danger do what you need to do to protect yourself. If your actions are justified you will be fine civilly and criminally. There is no direct yes or no. It’s situation dependent and wether your actions in that moment were justified.
