Dogs raised with cats or other pets will usually view them as part of the family or “pack”.

Whilst they may have bred instincts specific to their breed, another instinct that’s more powerful is the pack dynamic which makes them feel more secure keeps them more mentally healthy.

Dogs that have been raised well and who know their order in the family, will likely accept any pet, child, family member as part of their life without those other instincts being an issue.

It’s not always the case of course, and there’s always risks and you need to be mindful with any animal, but plenty of pets are okay with herding/hunting/retrieving dogs if raised and introduced right.
