If you want a cheap, reliable car, and don't need to maintain appearances, you can buy hail damaged cars really cheap.

Just want to chime in about the insurance and take it how you want to.

Someone I know has the lowest full coverage insurance he could get on an old car. 16 son totaled car around tree with two passengers, really bad accident, made local news and everything. Miraculously all three survived but with serious injuries. Insurance couldn’t cover it all so naturally the passengers was going to sue the owner of car.

The only reason the owner didn’t get sued is because the owner literally had nothing. No job, has terminal cancer, is on disability. So they dropped the lawsuits and used their own insurance.

So don’t think saving money by having low insurance would save you money in the long run, unless you also literally have nothing they can go after. Otherwise protect yourself adequately.
