If you could make a walking dead villain...

Seraph BACKSTORY: Seraph would fold into the comic/TV canon nicely with the following story. A former evangelical pastor, lost his family in the early days of the outbreak. He had a wife and two children. The loss of them happened at a church community event, they were raising money for the efforts against the outbreak. It was highly criticized and the time because government was near collapse and the effort seemed futile. The event was held on PBS. The highlight was Seraph’s 9 year old daughter playing “Moonlight Sonata” blindfolded. As the performance is about to begin, looters break-in to the studio killing most all of the staff, they hold Seraph’s wife and son at gun point for him to surrender anything they had. Trying to console his scared daughter, he tells her to keep playing and he barricades her in the recording room. As he tries to diffuse the conflict the door through which the men came in is flooded by walkers. The looters toss Seraph’s wife and child to them and run away. Seraph makes a desperate effort to save them, all while hearing his daughter play the haunting song on piano. Seraph fights through roamers to the screams of his wife and son, but when they went silent, all he found was remains. Turning his attention to all he had left, he runs to the recording room, but before he gets to the door, he sees one of the looters in the room through the window. His daughter, still blindfolded feels someone brush up against her, she stops playing and before the words “Dad”, the man puts the gun to her head saying “You shouldn’t interrupt a masterpiece,” and kills her. Seraph spent the months after in seclusion enraged and feeling betrayed by the God he followed in his prior life. His mind slips into and out of sanity. Seraph met and mourned with Morgan over their losses and just how desperate things had become (Shortly after ‘Clear’ episode). They make a suicide pact to proceed to reunite with their loved ones, but both their guns manage to jam. (Hence the bullet Morgan keeps) They spend months together training and becoming instruments to survive and assist in this world. A renewed and redefined faith is instilled in both to cleanse the world and show the path of light. Seraph and Morgan save many. When they cleared an area or found a group missing members, they would carve circles with x’s in them as a trail. He even meets a woman he falls in love with again. However, one day, a man from their group rapes and kills her. Seraph catches the culmination of this murder in the late evening and proceeds to torture the man for hours. Morgan awakens to see this and begs Seraph not to continue, reminding him of their belief that “all life is precious.” Seraph tears the man’s heart out before Morgan can say anything else. Morgan screams at the terrible thing he has just witnessed and a horde of walkers comes to them. Seraph continues plunging his knife into the body of the murderer as the horde closes in. Morgan just backs away in tears leaving his former best friend to his demise, or so he thought. Days after this event, Morgan sees new carvings in trees and learns that Seraph lives. SERAPH’S COMMUNITY/KILL STYLE Seraph begins to form a community out of the desperate and lost. People struggling to cope with loss of loved ones, of the world. He mentally manipulates and molds these people to be "righteous killers". The doctrine is to kill enough undead and sinners for the greater glory of the new god. Kills are sometimes setup elaborately and almost ritualistic in nature. Many are even re-enactments of how his own or the member’s family was taken. BUILD-UP & DEATH Seraph moves community moves through the eastern coast of the United States, heading towards the Capitol where they plan to enact terrible revenge on the leaders of government who failed to protect them. On his path, he sees Morgan outside of a gated community. Seraph becomes enraged at the thought that this man abandoned him during his darkest hour. He and his community observe the groups outside and witness the acts that were occurring. Abraham cheating on Rosita with Holly, Carl and Enid courting, the relation of Aaron & Eric… They capture Nicholas one evening and interrogate him. They just needed confirmation of the sinners that lived within the walls. Ready to kill him, he begs for his life and tells them he knows how and when to get them in if they let him survive. He proclaims that he has been seeking salvation and trying to exact revenge, but failed, but no he has found his ally through Seraph. Nicholas goes back in to the ASZ and will signal Seraph at late night when Michonne and Rick are changing shifts. When the time comes Seraph’s group (about 30) stealthily jump the walls and target homes of the “sinners”. Seraph goes to find Morgan. To subdue the members they were taking of the ASZ more easily, they use chloroform, getting them while they sleep. As Michonne is walking out of the house to start her shift, she hears a piano playing “Moonlight Sonata” from one of the houses. She finds it odd, especially for the time of night. She walks to investigate, as she gets closer, she screams and yells with her sword in hand as she sees Enid hung from a tree, two people tied to a tree with throats slit, and Holly on the ground bled out with the writing sinner around her. Running and yelling for help, Rick/Glenn/Daryl/Maggie/Carol and other residents all run out of the homes to help but notice their group is missing people. They run towards the house with the music playing and bodies displayed. Rick tries to get everyone to slow down, Michonne in the lead is suddenly shot in the leg and falls over. The group has been corralled by the 30 members into a circle. They are forced to kneel and are tied. Glenn notices Nicholas holding a gun to his head and becomes more enraged. Seraph reveals himself out the front door, “I am the new way. I am here to purify the souls left on earth.” He proceeds to reveal the members they have captured from windows and the front door of the home. In the captured we see: Abraham, Carl, Aaron, Eric, Tara, Jessie, and Morgan. “We are here to enact a terrible duty, but a necessary one to bring the world to salvation.” Morgan is now becoming awake and he starts to beg for Seraph to stop what he’s doing. Seraph expresses, “I will, once penance is made”. Seraph begins reciting a bible passage on homosexuality, when he finishes, he calls for one of his members, at that moment, Tara is thrown from a window and lands on the ground gutted. The member then states, “I am Brother Isaiah, for the murder of my wife. I give you this sacrifice.” Seraph nods in approval. Two other individuals from the group walk out with Aaron and Eric, “We are sister Mabel and brother Joseph, for the loss of our husband and friend, we give you this sacrifice.” Morgan yells desperately to stop, Rick & Co. as well. Aaron and Eric are given two knives and held at gun point. Seraph instructs them to plunge it into one another’s hearts. They refuse. “Let us show them the severity of their sins.” Eric is stood up and shot immediately. Aaron is next, but before he can do so Daryll begs for Aaron’s life. Seraph scolds him for interrupting the ritual and has his member hit Daryll knocking him out. Morgan now desperate is trying to get loose. The focus shifts back to Aaron. Seraph says, “Now you pick a replacement for your impure actions.” Glenn enraged with Nicholas is calling him a coward under his breath. “I will fix this, any minute now,” whispers Nicholas into his ear. Glenn looks perplexed and even more angry. Aaron, now in tears, falls to his knees. “If you cannot pick, I will,” exclaims Seraph. He has a member drag out Carl before Aaron. Carl is in tears seeing Enid hung and many of his loved ones vulnerable or dead around him.
