If a customer wants to know the cost of the $2000 set of Cutco knives being sold to them, workers are supposed to call it a “surprise” they’ll get to later... wtf!

You are missing the point that it is a incredibly manipulative sales tactic. Multiple times through the “demonstration” you are told to ask the customer if they are interested in one price, let’s say X being $1200 (which that actually is the starting price told to customers for the most “popular” set of knives) than if they aren’t interested you keep asking through the rest of the demonstration going down slightly in price. As well as using slander and fallacies to persuade the customer to buy bigger sets on knives over 1 or 2 knives they would actually use. Keep in mind though the customer won’t hear anything about the price until 20 minutes in and at the point most customers are either extremely annoyed or just want you to leave. That’s why they make you sell to family and friends first because the management knows you have a higher chance of making commission. Which btw the management makes WAY more commission than the actual representatives do when they start.
