I made a more detailed reply to someone else in this thread, but to summarize:

  • Democratic Socialism is a political, social and economic ideology which seeks public control over the means of production using democratic process

  • Social Democracy refers to a political, social and economic ideology that supports capitalism and private enterprise, while at the same time using proactive interventions to promote social justice, and address market failures, within the framework of a democratic government.

The Nordic Model is social democracy. Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist that either idiotically or intentionally uses these terms interchangeably.

The right made the word for being against fascism equal to being a terrorist.

This is ironically the same kind of thing you complained about here, especially given America's views towards socialism (and likely your own disposition towards capitalism). Does it make sense to you to refer to a bunch of capitalists as socialists?
