If we fund the terrorists they will stop attacking us, its a foolproof plan!

That was the Liberal talking point, and yes that was the official position of the Iraqi government. However Obama clearly didn't even try and clearly never had any intention of trying to negotiate a stay behind force. He was committed to a full withdrawal, and only used this is a talking point to justify his decision to Liberals who only ever have a base level understanding of any topic. Conservatives at the time were urging him to at least try to negotiate, and the US was in a strong position with lots of leverage to do so.

The idea that the US would make a decision that went directly against the national interest and throw away everything that had been accomplished (after spending trillions and sacrificing thousands of Americans to reach these goals) because some crackpot prime minister told them to, is absurd. Really shows how weak and damaging a president Obama was.

The fact is, full withdrawal from Iraq was a horrible mistake and every sensible person knew this at the time. It was within Obama's power and responsibility to make the right choice, and he didn't. He was more concerned with playing politics than making the though choices.

You guys can keep pretending you are informed about the subject mater, but you're just reciting tired democratic talking points from over a decade ago.

If you guys could take a moment to step back and look at the Iraq war with some perspective, you would realize everything you believe about it is wrong. It made sense to invade, and was easily justifiable. The strategy towards the war, and broader war on terror was clearly well conceived and ahead of it's time. If Cheney and Rumsfeld had been able to implement the strategy they initially conceived of the world would be a much better place right now. The anti-war left undermined everything and were eventually able to lose us a war that was won. It was shameful and any Liberal with a shred of objectivity should be embarrassed by the whole thing.

I hated the Iraq war when it was going on, I voted for Obama twice, I used to think Bush and Cheny were war criminals. But at some point I had to come to terms with the fact that everything I believed was wrong and I spent a decade on the wrong side of this issue, reciting these same talking points you guys are.
