If Paladin loses the board they lose the game, so why shouldn't they have good 1 drops?

This card was designed with Righteous Protector in mind. If you don't build around the battlecry, all you get is a Righteous Protector, and I expect it to be run that way in many cases. But if you choose to follow the condition you get a better void walker, which is a basic, conditionless class card.

There are some of the many good neutral cards that you're giving up for this one drop:

  1. neutral murlocs
  2. Ooze (no weapon removal)
  3. highlander cards
  4. neutral draws (Novice Engineer, Bloodmage Thalnos, Loot hoarder) which means no Salhet's Pride
  5. Cho tech vs Priest
  6. Mo'arg Artificer for consecration
  7. Silences
  8. Replicato-tron for Libram of Wisdom duplication

So yes it would be strong, but this is a tier 4 deck we're talking about.
