If you pay 400+ dollars for a pair of shoes, you're a damn idiot

This is about my 3rd reddit comment, be gentle, I'm slightly tipsy. But this sparked a memory/peeve of mine. About 6 years ago (I was at the time 24ish) i was living in a house with 3 other male friends. The house was a good spot for weekend drinking and general merriment. One saturday evening I came out of my bedroom and walked around the corner of the large L shaped couch in our sitting room. People everywhere, I think I was chatting to someone half in/half out of the kitchen. In the corner of my eye I saw a spot on the couch and proceeded to squat. Just before my posterior touched down a good friend of mines hand flashed underneath. I turned my head and he was looking very relieved, in his hand was a pair of sunglasses. He said "these are mine, they cost 500 dollars. I just saved you 500 dollars". I let it go. But I have often wondered how that conversation would have went if he hadn't got there in time. Ignoring the madness of leaving a breakable 500 dollars on a piece of furniture I think I would have found it hard not to tell him he was an absolute gobshite for spending that on glasses. I think I would have offered to buy him a reasonable 40-50 dollar pair in replacement. Thoughts anyone?
