If the purge was real...

It took Baltimore the death a young boy to cause riots in the street.. with a nationwide window of lawless, ungoverned activity good or bad, the movies simply demonize the react the general public would have when we're out on our own. Music today by the millions has youth listening and corrupting some of them because they like the beat but are (sub)consciously letting there bodies agree with some just all around shitty lyrics... some even nodding their head to whoever's speaking talking directly down to the listener! By your thoughts I can see that you may mean it would be beneficial if the world were to have some sort of 'cleansing' of certain people, but if we really were to have such a situation? It's hard to tell and it's really the one thing that would define us as a species... doesn't necessarily mean there would be only chaos and mass killing-- perhaps other things possibly an even better alternative to our present living conditions in accordance with goverment, what would happen if humans were not to be controlled and government, kept in line and told what to do, where to go? If we were to go straight to THAT knowing there is nothing to keep us from stopping, it's like we've been passively and half-unknowingly accepting prohibition of being able to do anything as free humans and the lack of "leash" would be like someone relapsing who has no control. TL;DR: Hard to tell, but I think movies are just put out there to implant the idea in people's brain to think that's what it's going to go down to...(also like that new mad max movie) -- subconsciously tricking you into believing you're better off being held together by the government as a people.
