“If you’re going to look at issues, what the Crows have got to deal with — finishing top and playing the game at Richmond’s home ground — is more of an issue.” Ted Richards finally says what most non vic fans have wanted someone in the media to say for a long time!

I'd love to see the stink with the Tiges having to travel 3000km to WA to play a grand final.

This is the point everyone rushing to silence the dissenter with downvotes doesnt want to acknowledge when it plays a MASSIVE role in how one team prepares as opposed to the other.

Teams flying into Melbourne have to travel 1000s km. A local side just has to travel 10kms. And in Richmonds case the players just need a light stroll and they are outside the MCG.

Richmond players and staff have the luxury of preparing for the game without the added burden of that comes with flying in to Melbourne. Richmond players can relax the night before a grand final and sleep in the confines of their own space and mentally prepare themselves for the big day. Richmonds coaching staff can go home to familiar surroundings a few days before the big day and can ease the tension being around family and familiar surroundings.

An interstate team has to live from a hotel room from Thursday onwards. Players are grouped together and living in each others pockets until they come home on the Saturday night.

Victorian based fans underestimate the psychology of preparing one self for such a long mentally and physically taxing day and game for everyone involved. And jet lag is a thing.

But traditions, ya know.
