If you’re unhappy with our centre back issue, that’s fine, but imagine how unhappy you’d be having lashed £40m on that Lindelof to solve it.- Phil Blundell off TAW on Twitter

good point on here, and while everyone, perhaps rightly, laughed at Klopp for his name 5 centre backs better thing, I still keep coming back to what i said in a comment like a month ago

When every top 6 club wanted a centre back this summer, 3 of them failed to do so, the other 2 having failed to bring in Jonny Evans. Would he be a guaranteed success for us? I think he's great as a Norn Iron fan, but like Lovren he made a decent number of mistakes for United and would cost £30m. Lindelof, Rudiger and Sanchez also aren't the most inspiring defensive signings imo from what little I've seen of them, so from Klopp's POV, you can see that he thinks, "I'm here for 5 more years, I want to plan long term, and I'll just wait for Van Dijk, as I think there's no point bringing in someone who may or may not work out and setting back the development of the rest of my centre backs, as I firmly believe that players can improve." It's not what I would do, personally I would have loved it if we signed Maguire, Keane and Mawson and had a look at which of them looked best, but that's probably why I'm not a football manager
