If reality is a dream, How do we live our lives? (personal story included)

Is the purpose to awaken the dreamer? Which, using the language of eastern philosophy, is liberation/moksha.

Yes. The Buddha in his very first sermon taught suffering. He said:

Birth is suffering, aging is suffering, sickness is suffering, separation from the beloved is suffering, not getting what one wants is suffering. These five clinging categories are suffering.

Then, he shared a deeper wisdom, how to end suffering. It is the Noble Eightfold Path.

  1. Right view
  2. Right intention
  3. Right speech
  4. Right conduct
  5. Right livelihood
  6. Right effort
  7. Right mindfulness/sati
  8. Right jhana/samadhi

An awakened being already follows the Noble Eightfold Path and sees the end to suffering. Someone who hasn't yet awakened follows in the footsteps of those that have awakened by entering the Path.

So, follow a noble Eightfold Path. All true spiritual paths are already composed of those 8 factors if you look deeply enough at them; simply explained in different manners.

Ending suffering is the true purpose of the Dharma.

Find the Deathless.
