If the US Sees a Civil War, It Won't Look Like the Last One: Historians

I don’t think it would be that simple. There’s a lot of sympathizers, yes, but sympathies can change fast when your life is on the line.

That guy in Cincinnati had no qualms about firing at the police and FBI alike. Anyone that obstructs them in the slightest is an enemy—they beat cops at the capitol who offered only the most token resistance.

If I was an officer, I would be taking a hard look right now at the kinds of people who are actually willing to murder me for stepping even slightly out of line, and deciding whether that’s really who I want to throw my lot in with.

I don’t know, maybe that’s too optimistic. These things are never straightforward, though. Too many individual and local factors to consider.
