If Toronto can do it, why can't we? (UBER)

its the same requirement time period on background checks as calgary isn't it?

it just doesn't say whose background checks they are using just that it has to meet city requirements, i don't see what that is i suspect that's up for a very large debate in the future as this is only a proposal still.

licensing fee costs a lot of people don't realize here that our general taxes do not pay for city livery services to police the cabs/limos/etc. its a self sustaining department, edmonton and toronto i suspect use city taxpayer money to manage it which is why their fees are much lower. i bet if we raised our taxes in town a tiny bit we too could lower our license fees.

also WTF is up with the licensing fees here. i wonder how point D is going to work in reality and what the calculations are.

City Council amend Chapter 441 by adding a new Private Transportation Company licensing class with a scalable licensing fee structure of:

  • a. Application fee: $20,000 (non-refundable);

  • b. Provisional licence issuance fee of $10 per Driver: calculated based on the number of affiliated PTC Drivers at licence issuance;

  • c. Per trip fee: $0.20 per trip originating in Toronto, submitted weekly and commencing the date that the provisional licence is issued;

  • d. 3-month provisional licence fee of $10 per Driver: calculated based on average number of affiliated PTC Drivers in the preceding 3-month period, less the provisional licence issuance fee paid on date of provisional licence issuance; and

  • e. Licence renewal fee: calculated based on the number of affiliated PTC Drivers in the 3-month period prior to licence renewal.
