If Trump is such a smart businessperson, how did he manage to bankrupt a casino?

This is gonna be a bit devil's advocatey because I don't personally like President Trump but the top comment is some egregious tu quoque about Bernie Sanders who isn't event relevent.

From Trump's comments it seems he didn't much care for maintaining a presence in the casino industry. What his plan seemed to be was to build quickly, make other people shoulder the casinos' losses, take the gross gain from the casinos and move that into Manhattan real estate projects instead of paying the comstruction loan interest. What matters to Trump is not that the businesses were unsuccessful but that he made a good deal of money on it.

So how did elite businessman Donald John Trump bankrupt his casinos? More or less intentionally because the long term success of the casinos wasn't the actual plan.
