I am below the poverty line and I have a galaxy s8. I am frugal and save my money. I bought it used and refurbished with money I got for my birthday and Christmas along with some money I had been saving. I have never thought of it as a frivolous purchase. Yes, I could have gotten a much cheaper phone, but this phone is fast, has a good camera, and is compatible with almost all apps. Cheaper phones can't take nice pictures of my art. Cheaper phones can't run the same apps sometimes. Just because a poor person has a nice phone, it doesn't mean they were spending money they don't have. Poor people can save, poor people can receive gifts, poor people can treat themselves.
