You’re really missing a point. Let’s say your a duck. A Normal Mallard duck doin your thing. You’re not “racist against other ducks, you even have ducks that are of other duck races like a northern shoveler”. But the leader of your lake/river system is also Mallard! And he is racist against northern shovelers and thinks they are less then and treats them worse then you. So let’s say it’s time to elect a new lake leader and you can choose the duck that only supports you based on your likeness of duck race, BUT other wise treats you like shit and doesn’t care about you. Or you can choose the duck who’s also a Mallard, and sure, used to be racist and homophobic BUT is now actively learning to be a better person and correcting those wrongs and has shown over years that they have changed and are a better person. And you choose to support the racist duck who only likes you based on your same duck race. THAT alone out of association with that racist duck, makes you racist and let’s others know that you are ok with that sort of racist activity. You actively supporting them means you give them a free pass to act racist and do racist things to other ducks like the northern shovelers! That’s why people don’t want you around. It’s the fact that because you excuse one thing for one person that means you will give others the pass or even act like that yourself.
