One night when I was an insecure and awkward middle schooler, I was awoken by the George Lopez theme song late at night. I decided to watch a bit of the episode. Ernie said in the episode that sometimes pretty girls never get asked out because they are just too pretty and intimidating. I used to tell myself that all the time while all my friends were getting their first boyfriends and stuff. Any day that I looked in the mirror and felt like an ugly sack of trash, I would recite that George Lopez line. Then I realized that maybe I should stop wearing my brother's hand-me-down basketball shorts everyday to school and maybe I should brush my hair too. Oh. And maybe I should make an attempt to talk to the boys I liked instead of waiting for them to talk to me. I realized what Ernie said was not true. But boy did it help me go through puberty with an optimistic outlook!
