Ignorant as Fuck

Last year the Pentagon estimated that it would cost about five million dollars a year for all current transgender to undergo surgery and hormonal therapy (including the labs, physician appointments, and referrals to non military providers for isolated individuals). Now it sounds like a lot, but the military health care budget is around 48 billion, so it is a drop in the bucket. However, if you could take that 5 million and instead spend it on maintenance or training (two things most generals and military leaders say we are deficient on) it could go a lot further than helping the 13k transgender members of the military. People need to realize the military isn't a charity, it's a business. Decisions are made by accounting in liability and cost benefit. 5 million could go really far for maintenance and if that means we lose 13k members, those slots can easily be refilled. People are waiting months to enlist or commission, you need the military, the military doesn't need you (at the moment).
