I'm about to become a beginner

Not high quality but here’s a few options at that price range that are great beginner values:

Ibanez talman or gio100 -$200

squier Jazz, pbass, or pj -$300

If you are confident you’ll stick with it you may want to look on reverb in the $450 price range. Pandemic prices could net you a much higher quality bass that you won’t want to upgrade as soon as the other options. Also the seller may be in a spot where they could really use the money and negotiate with you.

Schecter, Spector, PRS, Warwick, Fender and Epiphone all have high quality mid level basses priced around $500-$900. For example the prs kestrel and kingfisher are $850 brand new but ~$450 on second hand market, maybe offer $375 and settle on $415.

Lastly, search Jeff Berlin lessons, videos and books and good luck.
