I'm an elementary teacher and I hate my job

Okay.

Can Billy write? There's a reason he refuses to write. Is he dyslexic? Try to find out why. Ask him privately so he doesn't act like an asshole, which he's bound to do if you call him out in front of the whole class. I did this through the first couple years of college, and for me it was because I could never hear shit anyway, I just went there to get credit for attending.

That seems like a logical assumption, the fifth grader thought that teacher was just another staff member. Why are fifth graders even lining up in the hallways like kindergarteners? Let them all go to the cafeteria by themselves, you weirdos. Treat them like kindergarteners and they'll act like kindergarteners.

Stop thinking that just because these kids are low-income, that they're stupid. They're used to being in shitty schools and having little supplies and reading shitty lessons. I assume they're mainly black/Hispanic. Give them more credit. And they'll rise to the occasion.

Those girls, well, many teachers are assholes. They just dismiss kids and give them detention without knowing the truth. Like cops do. They really abuse their power. They ruin people's records without a second thought. What did these girls say, you know, maybe their sister was unfairly punished. Try listening to these kids. Maybe their mother had to work because their father is a deadbeat shit so these girls had to come in and stick up for their sister, and they just don't know how else to. The reality is, many teachers are assholes. Few of them genuinely care about students. I mean, maybe they do when they start, but they quickly become very jaded and stop giving a shit.

I understand what you mean by not having that freedom. If I were a teacher, I'd want to teach my students my own way, and not have to listen to retarded idiots who don't even know what it's like in my classroom, with my students. Think a little bit. Try to get the kids at least improving. Work at their level, make lessons interesting for them--at least they'll start working instead of just sitting there with their brains dulled having to listen to some lecture that doesn't even make sense to them.
