I'm a Democrat here for some perspective

I like this thread and I think there’s some great discussion happening here.. here’s my two cents.

When it comes to gun control specifically, New age democrats seem to live in an extremely idealistic utopian world. How dems see the world just seems grossly unrealistic at times, seeming to believe that taking away a tool of violence will instantly change/cure the wicked side of human nature (some humans)

My philosophy is to never expect the wicked of the world to play by some idealistic utopian rules. Some people are wicked, end of story. And I believe one must be prepared to play by THEIR rules, when/if confronted. (Self defense)

Another example of the dem utopian fantasy is thinking that everyone should/will agree with everything they think and say or they should be condemned, Is simply a childish belief. The idea of “cancelling” a person/group because you don’t agree with them is childish.

Democracy is, very simply put, many groups of people with Differing views, coming together to find compromise and find a solution that works for everyone. To shut someone down, and refuse even the prospect of having a thoughtful conversation around your differing beliefs is inherently anti-democratic.

Other dem ideologies seem very contradictory as well. “My body, my right”.... but then supporting mandated vaccines etc.

Anyways, none of these issues have super simple solutions. But I do think threads like this are what we need more of. True conversation as opposed to echo chambers and downvoting/ignoring everything we see that’s mildly opposed to our beliefs.

Note; I’m not sure I’m 100% libertarian. But I know I despise the two party system and think it’s inherently flawed.
