Personally, I disagree. I'm in a relationship that I'm very happy with, and marriage doesn't improve our relationship in any way. It's a lot of paperwork and pressure to needlessly spend money on a party, and accomplishes nothing for us.

Do things to make yourself happy and learn from your mistakes, including while dating. If getting married is something you and your partner want to do, then do it. But realize you also don't need to do that to be happy.

Most marriage "traditions" are just the result of successful marketing campaigns in the last 100 years (primarily, the ring and having a big party).
