I don't know where you are located but make sure you know what you can bring first. If you need to contact the prison to check to see what is acceptable please do so ahead of time. Generally you will not be able to bring anything but I would check before hand.

You will expect to go through security screening that will involve a non invasive search. IE metal detector, Drug scanner and drug dog. Do not bring anything that would be considered contraband and if you have questions contact the Institution ahead of time to obtain a list of prohibited items.

If you do consume drugs you should ensure that you do not consume before the visit and wear clothes and items that have not had contact with drugs. If you do consume drugs check your belongings for drug reside, paraphernalia and drugs before your visit, realizing that if you are found with those items at best you will be turned away, at worst local authorities may be involved.

Bring at least one piece of Government issued photo ID that is not expired. Listen to all directions from Officers, who are there to help facilitate the visit while preventing the introduction of contraband.

While in visit do not accept anything from the offender without prior approval of staff. Your conduct on the first visit will determine the eligibility of future visits.

If on the unlikely chance she asks you to bring in contraband you have a duty to report it to the institutional staff.
