I'm having problems with addiction and need some advice.

Hey, I recently posted something kinda similar, I'm still smoking daily and have been (give or take t breaks or dry periods of various lengths of 1 week to 5 months) for around 4 years now like you I started and it helped my mental state and made me a happier and more productive person but now I'm questioning that as I find it gets in the way of other shit I should be doing. Now, back over a year ago I was smoking 1-2g daily all day, now I'm down to .2/5 a day and pretty much evening exclusive so I feel better about not being stoned all the time and it has saved money so It has become a more end of day reward as opposed to all day fuel, I think this transition has been very good for me and my productivity especially.

I've tried quitting, multiple times, but always relapse due to friends, or during my 5 month break I got over the initial hurdle and felt pretty good about it but a few months down the line I found I was pretty anxious and stressed most of the time and really missed the stuff so came back into the fold, strong, and I've gradually cut it down since then.

Also to continue, I did smoke joints exclusively during my heavier days and maybe a blunt or pipe, but I've hoped over to my water bong now and it's saved a lot, I find I smoke less if I go for the massive head rush which I have to slowly come down for a few hours as opposed to frequently toking to maintain a steady buzz, I roll an amazing joint (I got to brag a bit) so I still roll one up every other day before bed but generally find they're more wasteful.

  • I own a vaporizer but don't use it much, now and again as a novelty as most people I know don't use them so I show it off, but i'm making the hop soon to use that mainly and bong on weekends only to further cut down consumption.

I would also recommend exercise, I used to weigh 16 stone but down to 11.5 now and feel miles better, not even for losing the weight, the time you spend exercising and the endophines are well worth it. (not serious exercise, I cba, but long walks and bike rides slowly did it without my noticing)

As you can guess I'm on the slowly reducing route after failing cold turkey on multiple occasions and I plan to continue until I can safely quit for good or be on such a low intake I'm not concerned it's an issue anymore.

Good luck to you and SO!

TL;DR - Similar boat, try cutting down rather than cold turkey and try other activities like exercise and other outdoorsy stuff you can't toke up to while doing, maybe something you and SO can do together to take your minds off it.
