As someone who has worked with the salvation armies regional conferences, I can say they are not something I would give my money to.

Pleasantries and charity mask a bizzare cult that calls each other military titles (seargent Susan..etc), hold lengthy revival services railing on not just LGBTQ, but political adversaries and unbelievers having to be turned or neutralized politically. The whole thing is very creepy and the people on thier upper eschelons are aggressively zealous, giving speeches that remind me more of Stalin than Jesus. Many of the "soldiers" have that far away cult look in thier eyes. It's just all very weird and divisive. We e don't need more of that on this world, no matter how many thrift stores it makes.
