I'm so intelligent and good looking, everyone!

Hi all. Cringey Minnie Mouse here.

Here's another picture of me for proof Feel free to say mean things about that one too.

Just wanted to apologize for the plainness of my face and body, the weirdness of my crazy eyes, the poor grammar on my post, and all of the other things that I'm doing wrong.

My programming skills aren't anything special, but I am proficient enough in MATLAB, Python, and Java to say that I know how to code. I was good enough at Python to get a job as a computer science TA, and I wrote some MATLAB code at my internship that's currently being implemented in the company's data processing tools. Again, nothing special, but a little better than "Hello World".

The school I go to is RPI. It's the oldest technological university in the English speaking world, according to it's wikipedia page. It may not have the best aerospace program out there, but it's certainly better than my first school that didn't have one at all (Duke University). I'm very happy with my choice to transfer here and I have a lot of pride in my school, but feel free to shit on that decision too.

I'll be honest with you guys. I have not personally experienced any discrimination in the engineering world because of my gender. I really posted this because I wanted to hop on the bandwagon when I first saw an article about #ilooklikeanengineer. It was not a humblebrag. It was absolutely a full-on "I'm fucking awesome. Everyone look at me" brag. I'm proud of my accomplishments (as is my father, oh by the way) and I'm happy with the way I look. This offered me a chance to show off while framing it in a message about gender equality that people can support. That message wasn't what was important to me, though. It was the bragging opportunity and the chance to be an attention whore. I suffer from clinical depression which can be pretty detrimental to my self-esteem. I got a lot of positive responses from my friends and I felt really confident for about 24 hours. To me, that made my silly little braggy post worth it. Say what you will, but that's what social media is for. Nobody's facebook profile is an honest representation of who they are. It's for sharing the highlights with people so you can feel good about yourself for a little bit. Thanks for trying to take that away from me.
