I know the legal precedent. That's not what I'm talking about. Legally, she can do whatever she wants, and it shouldn't be any other way. I would never argue against that. But she didn't just donate her egg to a random person, so pretending she has no idea who Hebby is while still maintaining a close friendship with her father is fucked. I don't think she should ever be taken to court over it, but I do think she should acknowledge Hebby of her own accord because it's the decent thing to do for Hebby. Hebby didn't make any choices regarding her own birth.

That's not what I meant when I said she wasn't absolved of responsibility, though. OP said that Darryl should have stopped Rebecca from making her own decisions regarding the donation and should have pushed her to go to therapy instead of asking her to babysit. Those are both entirely Rebecca's responsibility, not Darryl's, regardless of Rebecca's mental state. Blaming other people for the actions of someone who's mentally ill is a dangerous road to go down.
