I'm surprised she made it this far

The first joke could have worked, but the girl seems like a dry conversationalist. The second, however, was bound to fail, as it was some reference she probably didn't even know (I myself didn't, until I found more about it in the comments here), so yeah, you can't really expect that much to happen from this situation.

Some girls probably expect a conversation, probably with a bit of humor, but some jokes just never work.

I myself matched with a girl not on Tinder, but on OkCupid instead, but, as much as I like joking around as well, I try not to go over the top, if I'd like the conversation to continue and not be awkward. I did plug in a joke or two, if the situation allowed, but it was more of an interesting conversation on things in general that lasted a few hours. I'm not saying that she was crazy about it - we actually laughed about the possibility of meeting someone interesting on such an app ("How I met your mother... On OkCupid") and she talked about her discomfort meeting strangers on the internet, especially with her experience with creeps who seem to be making huge plans just because she replied, which bothered her.

I doubt anything serious will actually come out of this, as she said she wasn't really looking for anything, and is on the app out of curiosity, like most of us, so yeah. I can at least have a few good conversations and probably a new friend out of this - you could say I've mastered the friendzone in such a way that I automatically put myself there, lol. In a way, it's normal, as I haven't met her in person. You can't make plans with someone you haven't been on a single date yet, lol. In all seriousness, though, I like having someone to hold a nice conversation with, no matter the gender.

It's not set in stone that we have to necessarily be in a relationship to actually have a good time talking to each other. You can't force attraction.
