I'm terrified about my colonoscopy! Help!

I'm 29 years old and had a upper and lower scopes done a year ago or so now. I have extreme anxiety so once the procedure was booked, I was a wreck. I will tell you though that my experience overall, while not great, was worth my peace of mind.

I was instructed to do the miralax poweraid regimen the day before the scopes, followed by a generic 16oz bottle of lemon-flavored magnesium citrate about an hour or something like that before the actual procedure. I didn't sleep much the night before for the nervousness. I was still shitting yellow poweraid right up until before they wheeled me into the room. I too worried the most about the horror stories I read online about people waking up during the endoscopy or feeling the pain of the scope and ballooning in their abdomen. That was my biggest fear. I could hardly talk to the doctors I was so wound up about it.

But it was really a matter of them putting a mask on me and I think they had an IV in me (might be making that up?) and once they flipped on the little Twighlight switch, I was out. Woke up back in my recovery room with no recollection or feeling of anything amiss... Other than my bare derrière and an absorbent pad underneath from wear I had apparently shat myself prior to the procedure. But thank God, I didn't remember that either.

The doctor had no bedside manor so that bit sucked. Kind of felt like a gizzard inspection assembly line, but at least I found out for sure I didn't have cancer, celiac or Crohn's disease. You will be A-ok. The prep truly truly is the worst of it. Bring extra clothes and undies with you. Buy some moist wipes, find a happy show to watch and just try to relax. Oh and make sure to have some gentle to eat afterward. I went for the coconut macaroons and it felt like I was going to shit glass for an hour. The coconut macaroons just sounded so right...
