I'm tired of seeing BDSM or kink depicted in a scandalous or shocking manner. Of course it's fun, but it's fun like ice cream is good. There's nothing shocking about it, and it's nothing to get overly excited about.

I agree with this comment about pop culture and disliking the dark, brooding, dramatic TV depiction of BDSM. But that’s not because I don’t think the reality of it is fun and exciting.

If anything, I think the reality of how fun and exciting it is to dominate/be dominated by someone in an intimate way is sold short by the extreme hardcore version of BDSM we see on TV and movies. It is thrilling to have “taboo” sex, but where real life differs from TV is that the thrill can result from sex at any level of intensity, depending on what you see as taboo.

Some people go all out for the whips and chains. Some people just wanna be slapped around a little and talked dirty to. Some people want otherwise completely vanilla sex but with one hand tied behind their back or a blindfold on. Idk. Either way.. BDSM involved or not, I think sex should be fun and exciting or you’re doing it wrong. What makes BDSM so exciting is the level of trust and intimacy you share with the person who is allowing you to do these things to them/doing them to you, not necessarily all the accessories and things themselves.
