Immigrating to Australia from UK. What was the one thing you wished you knew then that you know now?

Not an immigrant but I live in the UK.

Some advice - It's cold here.

We get about 3 weeks of summer, where its hot, but other than that it is cold and wet and windy. Be prepared for that.

Nobody here actually cares about cricket. You're Australian so you might want to gloat should Australia win the Ashes or some other competition but honestly, 99% of us legit don't give a shit and will just think you're a bit weird.

Rugby is watched here, but not nearly as popular as you think.

We have far nicer, far more interesting places than London.

Don't pretend that because you've lived here a few months you understand the plight of British people, and you understand the resentment some British people feel towards some immigrants - you don't.

Don't forget to pay your TV Licence. It sounds ridiculous, but they take it very, very seriously (but contrary to what they tell you, they cannot detect you... They just guess/research).

Don't, at any time, utter the phrase "where I come from" in response to someone doing something you don't like. You are not where you come from. Respect that.

Have fun and do all the tourist stuff, even though you're staying here... But remember that the Footguards at the Palace are real soldiers, with real weapons, real standing orders and very real training. They are not there for your amusement.
